NFF board divided, over Amodu
A sharp division within the NFF board may lead to a failure to decide the future of Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu when the executive committee meets in Abuja on Friday.

A sharp division within the NFF board may lead to a failure to decide the future of Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu when the executive committee meets in Abuja on Friday.

Some board members are so displeased with the leadership that they are prepared to take opposing sides to whatever position the board's leadership takes on any issue, including the Amodu issue.

Sources within the NFF tell KickOffNigeria.com that the NFF had capitulated to demands to hire a foreign coach, but a decision had yet to be taken on what to do with Amodu.

A source close to the NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi told KickOffNigeria.com that the former BCC Lions coach is to be sent to Europe on a coaching course.

"There is an agreement in principle with the new coach, but he wants to come with his own assistants, so Amodu will be going on a coaching course," the source said.

However, a faction in the board is against the decision, insisting that time is too short between now and the World Cup to get a new coach, especially a foreign coach who does not understand or know Nigerian players.

Members of that group met late into the night on Thursday and into the early hours of Friday morning ahead the full board meeting.

It would appear though, that there is little the group can do. The Presidential Task Force, also meeting on Friday in Port Harcourt, are determined to see a foreign coach in place in the shortest possible time.

Their position has been made very clear to the NFF, who will not only kiss any source of government funding goodbye if they resist, but will also find their re-election dreams in tatters in August with no government backing.
